Top seed Janali Manamperi also made her way into the finals after a bye and two straight set victories in the quarters and semifinals, against Senuri Alexander and Sethmi Sumanaweera respectively.
The final clash was a treat to the eye with both girls going at it from the get-go, not letting up till the first set was dragged to a tie breaker. Three points at 4-4 were the turning points in the match for Jayasuriya, as she went on to hold on to the first set 7/6 (4).
Down a set, it was a long road ahead for the top seed to try and patch the damage and level things up with her counterpart. Eventually, Manamperi’s efforts went in vain in a valiant form, as Jayasuriya pulled through the win 6 games to 4.
Savini Jayasuriya is the successor to Medhira Samarasinghe who won the Girls U18 championship in 2017.
