Here’s a round up of the matches which took place in Singer U19 division I cricket tournament 2017/18 today.

Wesley College vs S Thomas’ College

Wesley College earned much deserved first innings points against the visiting S Thomas’ College in their traditional encounter at Campbell Park.

The Thomians resumed play on the 2nd Day with 52 runs on the board for the loss of 2 wickets. Apart from skipper Dellon Pieris and Maleesha Rupasinghe, the Thomian batting line up failed to make any notable contributions as they were cleaned up for 227 runs. Sarinda Bakmeewewa and Mohommad Ubaidullah shared 3 wickets each.

With a lead of 49 runs, Wesley College came in to bat for their 2nd innings and went on to score 117 runs for 7 wickets before making the declaration. Thenuka Perera remained unbeaten on 50.

In reply at stumps, S Thomas’ were 88 for 2 in just 10 overs.

Royal College vs Ananda College

Ananda College took first innings honors against Royal College in their traditional match at the Royal Grounds.

Ananda College, who were 164 for 5 overnight, went on to make 286 for 9 in just 69.2 overs. Kamesh Nirmal, Kavindu Gimhan and Lahiru Hiranya scored half centuries for the visitors.

In reply Royal College in their second innings put together a much better performance comparing to their 1st innings. Skipper Pasindu Sooriyabandara who missed out on a century in the 1st essay, went on to make a stunning 104 which propelled the home team to 300 for 5 at stumps on Day 2.

St Peter’s College vs Prince of Wales

Prince Wales registered a massive win by an innings and 11 runs against St Peter’s College in Moratuwa. The Cambrians resumed play on 282 for 5 and they added 17 runs for the loss 3 wickets before their declaration in the morning.

The Peterites had their backs to the wall, it was just a matter of survival for them but the hosts skipper, off-spinner Savindu Pieris had other intentions. His splendid bowling spell skittled the visitors for just 164 runs in 64.1 overs. Savindu bagged 6 for 63 to go with his 2 wickets in the first innings. Kaumal Nanayakkara managed three wickets in the 2nd innings to go with his 5-for in the first.

This is St. Peter’s third outright loss this season.
