Six matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
Prince of Wales vs St. John’s College, Panadura
The Cambrians recorded an innings win against St. John’s College from neighbor town Panadura. St. John’s College resumed day two on 53 for 4 wickets and were bowled out for just 87 runs. After being asked to follow on, the lads from Panadura shown some improvement with the bat compared to the first innings as they scored 140 runs but it was not enough to prevent the Cambrians clinching an innings win. Off spinner Savindu Peiris was the main destroyer with the ball as he picked up 9 wickets in the match for Cambrians.

Trinity College vs Nalanda College
The Trinitians managed to win first innings points against Nalanda College in the traditional encounter which concluded at Nalanda grounds, Colombo. Hosts resumed day two on 127 for 3 wickets but only added another 62 runs for the remaining 7 wickets. With 38 runs ahead, Trinity batsmen began their second innings and scored 232 for 5 wickets at stumps on day two. Abishek Anandakumar scored a magnificent century for Trinity College and remained not out at stumps.

Mahinda College managed to record an innings win against Zahira College in the group ‘D’ encounter which concluded today at Galle International Stadium. Mahinda College declared their first innings on 247 for 6 with 139 runs ahead of Zahira’s first innings total. Zahira College did not show any improvement with the bat in the second innings as they were bowled out for just 98 runs. Pasan Pethangoda took a match bag of 7 wickets for the lads from the South.

Skipper of the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first on their home soil but could not post a big score on the board as they were bowled out for just 130 runs. In reply, the visitors also struggled to dominate the Thomian bowlers as they only managed to score 98 runs for 8 at stumps on day one. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
