Savindu Peiris takes 10 as Cambrians record innings victory

Five matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs Isipathana College, Colombo

Prince of Wales College recorded an innings victory over Isipathana College in their Group B fixture which concluded today at BRC grounds. Isipathana College resumed day two on 34 runs for 2 wickets and eventually were bowled out for 162 runs. After been asked to follow on Isipathana batsmen managed to score only 90 runs in their second innings. Cambrian off spinner Savindu Peiris picked up 10 wickets for 62 runs in the match.

Traditional fixture between Thurstan College and Mahanama College ended in a draw today at Thurstan College grounds. However the vital first innings points were won by Thurstan College. Mahanama College resumed day two on 85 runs for 3 wickets and crumbled for 148 runs. Pawan Rathnayaka made a valuable 51 runs for the visitors. Thurstan batsmen began their second innings 16 runs ahead and were bowled out for 159 runs.

Maris Stella College continued their dominance over St. Anthony’s College, on day two as well as they recorded an innings victory at St. Anthony’s College grounds. Maris Stella College declared their innings today at a mammoth 349 runs for 8 wickets. It was a challenging task for the Antonians to match that score and they were bundled out for just 93 runs in their second innings. Right arm off spinner Ravindu Fernando was brilliant with the ball picking up 5 wickets for just 13 runs.
