Anushka Sanjeewani made a stroke filled half century in the 1st semi-final of the Women’s Division I Cricket Tournament at the MCA grounds earlier today to guide Air Force to a comfortable 106 run win over counterparts Air Force B.
Batting 1st after winning the toss, the star studded Air Force A team managed to make 253/5 in their allotted overs. Sanjeewani made a brilliant 101 while Sri Lanka opening batter Chamari Atapattu contributed with a belligerent 79.
Shakila Premaratne and Ruchini Samarasinghe were the pick of the bowlers for the Air Force B team, bagging 2 wickets apiece.
Chasing a daunting target of 254 to create an upset, the Air Force B ladies were in a spot of bother of 50/3 at one point. They never recovered from the poor start however and ended their innings on 147/7 in their 50 overs. Sanduni Abeywickrama and Harshani Maduwanthi put up a fight but could not carry their team to victory as they fell short by 106 runs.
With the win, Air Force have made it through to the finals, where they will face the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final.
