The 1st ever turf wicket has been built in the North of Sri Lanka and will be opened tomorrow at 9.30 am. at St. Patrick’s College Jaffna.
This turf wicket which is a concept of Hon. Sanath Jayasuriya MP has been made a reality by Maj Gen. Udaya Perera and Brig. Thirinawu Karasu of SL Army made this a reality a badly required resource for the sportmen of the North and East.
Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee approved the expenditure of Rs. 3 million on the Turf wicket and Rs. 5 million for the ground construction. SL Army played a major role by giving the manpower needed for this magnanimous venture.
A T20 cricket match will be played to mark the opening of the turf wicket and past national hero’s Sanath Jayasuriya, Promodaya Wickramasinghe, Upul Chanadana, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Niroshan Bandarathilake and Lanka Silva, will be in action against a combined U 23 side from the North & East (SLC Under 23 finalist).
