Sanath Martis to coach Royal

Veteran Coach Sanath Martis will take charge as Head Coach of the Royal rugby team for the 2014 season. Sanath Martis makes a re-entry to the schools coaching scene after a lapse of two years.

Royal were coached last year by Johan Taylor during the first part of the season, However his coaching stint with Royal was terminated midway through the season after some poor results during the first few games of the season. After the removal Johan Taylor the coaching duties were entrusted back to the Head Coach of the previous season Bilal Yusuf. Royal finished sixth in the league table for 2013.

Martis brings with him close to twenty years of coaching experience having coached teams like Isipatana and Wesley. Martis has also guided the Sri Lanka youth team to many memorable victories.

Sanath Martis stamped his mark as a versatile coach during his six year coaching stint with St. Peter’s where he guided them to two league titles. Martis has molded some of the most outstanding schoolboy players in the recent past where he coached players in the likes of Ishan Noor, Danushka Ranjan, Shenal Dias and Sandun Herath.
