Sri Lankan cricketing legend Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as the Director of Cricket at Dambulla Aura for the upcoming Lanka Premier League 2023.
In this role, Jayasuriya will oversee various aspects of the franchise’s cricketing ecosystem, including the coaching structure, auction plans, team strategy, talent discovery, and development. This announcement was made by Dr. Viranjith Thambugala, Chairman of Aura Lanka Group of Companies and President of Aura Lanka Sports Pvt Ltd.
Jayasuriya previously played a crucial role with the Kandy Falcons LPL team in the previous season, where they topped the group stage by winning 7 out of 8 games. However, they faced an unfortunate defeat in the playoffs.
Dambulla Aura, which finished at the bottom of the points table last season, is making significant changes to their squad. They have appointed the talented wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis as the captain for the upcoming season, with the aim of revitalizing the team’s performance.
Furthermore, Dambulla Aura has secured the services of Avishka Fernando, who has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in previous Lanka Premier League seasons.
