‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2024’ kicks off in 5 Provinces with 18,000 Athletes

The ‘2024 Samaposha Provincial School Sports Games’ will commence from August 21, powered by Samaposha, the most popular grain food in the country, and the leading brand of Plenty Foods (Pvt) Limited, a subsidiary of CBL Company. This year’s Games focus on five provinces including the North Central, North Western, East, Uva and the South.

With patronage from Samaposha, the Samaposha Provincial school sports event is organized in collaboration with the Provincial Education Offices and will be held concurrently from August 21 to September 13 with the participation of athletes in these 5 provinces.

More than 18,000 athletes representing over 2000 schools will participate, showcasing their skills across 70 competition events. The provincial education department is taking steps to award trophies, certificates and medals to the winning schools and athletes.

Commenting on the sports event, the Director of Education (Physical Education and Sports) of the Ministry of Education, Atula Wijewardena said: “We are most appreciative of the tremendous support provided by CBL Samaposha to improve the skills of school children and promote their physical and mental well-being as well as provide them strength they need to elevate their talents to national levels.”

The Uva Provincial Games will be held as the first Samaposha Provincial school sports event at the Vincent Dias Stadium, Badulla from 21st to the 24th August. The Uva Provincial Deputy Director of Education (Physical Education and Sports) M.G. Channa Karunasena commented: “It was Samaposha who came forward for the first time to ensure the Samposha Provincial school sports event became a success by sponsoring us to help raise children who are trying to reach national sporting level from the grassroots.”

Phase two, the Southern Provincial Samposha Provincial school sports event will be held as the second Samaposha Provincial school sports event from 27th to 30th of August at the Kotawila Ground, Matara. Commenting on the event, Southern Province Deputy Director of Education (Physical Education and Sports) R.M. Krishan Duminda said: “The Southern Province Sports Festival, is being organized by the Southern Province Education Department and I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of everyone to Samaposha, the brand sponsoring the event and supporting us towards raising the children’s sporting talents, their education and nutrition levels.”

As the third Samaposha Provincial school sports event, The Eastern Province Games will be held from 5th to 9th of September at the Weber Stadium, Batticaloa. The Provincial Assistant Sports Director A.H. Mohammed Akmal expressed his views: “After many years, Samaposha is the first sponsor to come to the Eastern Province to promote school sports. This sports festival is a great resource for the Eastern Province. The impact of a local product on the nation’s children brings an unparalleled sense of joy and pride.”

the North Western Provincial Sports Festival is scheduled to be held from 07th to 11th of September at the Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala. Y.M.H.K. Abeykoon, Deputy Director of Education (Health, Physical Education) of the North Western Provincial Delegation, said: “This national initiative is commendable to help school athletes to become more aware of their abilities through new technology. It also contributes to build their pride as athletes, and to produce international level athletes who will bring fame to for the nation.”

The final sports event, the North Central Province Games, will be held at the Public Stadium, Anuradhapura from 10th to 13th of September. The North Central Province Sports, Health and Physical Education Assistant Director K. K. C. D. Porogama said: “For many years, Samaposha has been developing the sportsmanship of the children of the North Central Province, helping them to showcase their talent, and preparing the necessary space for them to step on the national level. I deeply commend Samaposha for their invaluable support to these resilient young athletes who, despite facing adversity, have dedicated themselves to sports and persevered.”
