Zahira College thrashed Anuradhapura MMV by 243 runs in their Singer-cup group C encounter which worked off today at Zahira College grounds.
Skipper Sajith Sameera won the toss and opted to bat first as they posted a formidable 218 in the first innings. 15 year old Mohommed Shamaz made a brisk 83 and Mohommed Najath made a solid 60 earlier in the game. In reply the visitors got dismissed for a hapless 58, as the off-spinner Sajith Sameera claimed 4 scalps. The lads from Maradana came out to bat in the second innings as they declared on 148 for 6 wickets inside 34 overs. In-form Batsman Mohommed Najath was the star for the home team in second essay as he stroked a magnificent century including 8 boundaries and 4 sixes.
Chasing a victory target of 308 the lads from Anuradhapura were going nowhere as they knocked out for 65 runs in 23.3 overs to give an easy 243 run win for Zahira College. Skipper Sajith Sameera took a five wicket haul, to complete 9 wickets for the match and he was ably supported by left-arm speedster Hashmi Hussain who picked up four wickets for home team.
