Sajeev the only Sri Lankan archer to shoot at Asian Championship

The Asian Archery Championship which is held biannually will commence on the 24th of this month (November) and continue to the 30th, featuring the top ranked Archers of Asia.

The tournament was first hosted by India in the Year 1980 while this year Dhaka, Bangladesh has been named the host city by World Archery Asia. The previous tournament was held in Thailand where Rajat Chauran from India won the Men’s category while Jothi Vennam also from India won the Women’s category.

Sajeev De Silva is the only participant from Sri Lanka and he will be leaving next Monday for tournament which will start on the 24th. He is preparing to shoot at the 70m standard Olympic rounds where he will shoot a total of 72 arrows, 36 in the preliminary rounds and the rest as he progresses to the rounds to follow. 

Speaking to ThePapare.com Sajeev said “I will look to do well in the first rounds and qualify through to the next rounds, it’s actually a tough tournament and I’m very happy that I’m participating and have qualified to shoot at the event.”

MAS active has come forward in sponsoring him with the Jerseys necessary for the competition. The head of MAS Active Mr. Chelan Goonatileke gave presented the jerseys to Sajeev De Silva earlier this evening (15th November).

Speaking at the event Mr. Goonatileke stated that MAS will be sponsoring all participants from Sri Lanka at the international events in order to promote local sports in the international level.
