S Thomas’ College vs St Peter’s College

Table toppers of Group D in the Singer U20 Div 1 cricket tournament, S Thomas’ College and St Peter’s College went head to head at S Thomas’ College Grounds Mt Lavinia.   Thomians after a moral boosting victory vs Nalanda was all geared up to take on the Peterites. St Peter’s skipper Vinu Mohotti won the toss and elected to bat first. The Peterite openers gave an ideal start for the visitors with a quick fire 77 run partnership, Inesh Fernando with another blistering 43 run cameo.

Thomian Skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka managed to put the breaks on the visitors with a double blow, getting rid of Inesh Fernando and Hashan Wanasekara in two consecutive deliveries. Lakshina came to the crease and steadied the ship together with Anishka Perera before both of them were dismissed for 28 and 31 respectively. The visitors were 132 for the loss of 4 wickets at lunch.  The Thomains took hold of the game after lunch as they ran through the Peterite lower middle order with ease. Peterites lost the remaining 6 wickets for just 65 runs. Skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka took a fifer for the home side.

The Thomians came on to bat in the second session and they were 81 for the loss of 2 wickets going into the tea break. Ravindu Kodithuwakku scored a valuable 52 runs before he was dismissed by Vinu. The Peterites dragged back the scoring rate towards the end of the day and at stumps on day one St Thomas’ was 116 for the loss of 4 wickets. Trinity College vs Isipathana College

Colts Cricket club hosted the match between two unbeaten sides this season, Trinity College and Isipathana College. Both teams leading the groups A and C respectively. Isipathana won the toss and elected to bat first. This decision did not go well for them as they were bundled out for a mere 163 runs. Heshan Fernando top scored with 47 while Duvindu Tilakarathne and Raveen Sayer took 4 scalps each.

At stumps the boys from Kandy were in a demanding position at 132 for the loss of 2 wickets. Shavindu Amarasinghe with an unbeaten half century and together with Dilan Jayalath who is unbeaten on 32 mades ure that they don’t lose early wickets and put pressure on themselves.

St Sebastian’s College vs President’s College

St Sebastian’s hosted President’s College in their Group D match of Singer U20 Div 1 tournament. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. Sebs posted a mammoth 319 runs in 88 overs thanks to a brilliant century by Sandaruwan Fernando. He ran out of partners and was stranded at 137 runs before the visitors bundled out the home side.

President’s College came to bat in the last session and they showed resilience till stumps. Visitors were 30 for no loss the five overs but they will have bat through most of day two if they are to save the match.
