The quarter-finals of the under-19 division 1 tier ‘B’ school cricket tournament organised by the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association and the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute started Today (7th February).
Isipathana College posted a total of 197, with valuable contributions from Maleesha Sandaruwan (46) and Lesandu Kalpage (45). Yashmin Jayasundara and Shehan Kumara shared six wickets between them to keep St. Anne’s in check. St. Anne’s College safely negotiated four overs before stumps, finishing at 8/0.
Mahinda College put up a fighting total of 217, thanks to crucial knocks from Dulsith Darshana (67) and Manith Rajapaksha (60). However, the star of the innings was Rusith Jayawardene, who tore through Mahinda’s batting lineup with impressive figures of 6/65. Sri Sumangala College faced just two overs before stumps.
De Mazenod College was restricted to 153 as Vihas Thewmika delivered a stellar bowling performance, claiming 5/37. In response, Thurstan College finished the day at 104/4, with Sethru Fernando anchoring the innings with a well-made 59. Praneeth Vithanage chipped in with two wickets to keep the contest alive heading into Day 2.
