Thurstan College completely dominated proceedings against Sri Sumangala today in an inter school cricket match played at the Thurstan grounds.
Sri Sumangala winning the toss gave the host’s a chance to bat first and the home team obliged scoring a mammoth 343 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in their first innings. It was a superlative batting display by the Thurstan College batsmen as the entire top order fired to give their team a clear advantage going in to day two.
Number three batsman Kavindu Kulasekera and skipper Ramindu Kumarasinghe were the go-getters for Thurstan as they scored two big tons. Kulasekera made amends as he went on to score an unbeaten 152* runs in 208 ball scoring 11 fours and a six in his innings.
Skippers and number four batsman Ramindu Kumarasinghe who has been in sublime form for Thurstan this season ended his innings on an unbeaten 128* runs which was scored in 148 ball inclusive of 8 fours and a six. The duo stamped their class and completely dominated the Sumangala bowling.
The two batsmen managed to put on an unbeaten 236* runs for the 4th wicket which took the game away from the visitors. With 343 runs on the board the home team declared and gave the visitors a chance to bat and they ended day one on 40 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.
It was a good all round performance by Thurstan College as Rajitha Perera ended with superb figures of 2 for 2 at the end of day one.
