Rumesh Tharanga sets new Sri Lanka & meet record at Asian Throwing Championship

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga has established a new meet record and new Sri Lanka record in Men’s Javelin Throw event in the 2nd Asian Throwing Championship held in South Korea.

Tharanga won the Gold Medal in the event with a performance of 85.45 meters, but missed out Olympic qualification by just 5 cm as the required level in the Olympic qualification is read at 85.50 meters.

Meanwhile, former national record holder Sumedha Ranasinghe clinched the Bronze medal at the event with a performance of 77.57m.

In the Women’s Javelin Throw event, Sri Lanka’s Nadeesha Dilhani Lekamge managed to win a Bronze medal with a throw of 57.94m.
