Great atmosphere prevailed at the Havelock Sports Club grounds yesterday as the Rugby Rumble, a tag rugby carnival took place. The event was worked off in two categories over 35 years and over 25 years representing all the regular rugby playing schools.
In this tag game every try was counted as 1 point and there was no conversion in the game. Top two teams of the group will play in the cup quarter finals while bottom teams will play the bowl quarter finals. Losers in those quarter finals will play in the plate and shield semi finals respectively.
Over 35
Nilfer Ibrahim’s Kingswood was unbeaten as they beat Green Dragons 2- 0, drew with Lumbini 1 – 1 and won with St. Joseph’s 2 – 1 to top the group A. Therefore, they will play the cup quarter finals with the loser of Trinity v Dharmaraja of group C which is to be a rematch as their scores were tied. Meanwhile Isipathana B who topped the group D winning three out of three will play with Prince of Wales who ended up second in the group B.
Lumbini will play with the winner of tomorrow’s Trinity- Dharmaraja in the cup quarter finals and Zahira will play against Isipathana A.
Ananda will play against Green Dragons in the bowl semi -final while Royal Tuskers and Wesley will be the other semi finalists.
St. Josephs and Mahanama might play in the shield final directly.
Over 25
CWW Kannangara will play Old Bens in the first cup quarter finals and D.S. Senanayake will take on Royal Assassins in the second quarter final. Ananda play Dharmaraja and Science will take on their neighbors S. Thomas Blue in the third and fourth cup quarter finals.
In the bowl semi-final Zahira will play against MCB and the winner will play the finals with St.Joseph’s as they received a walkover.
