Royal College Colombo recorded another convincing win yesterday beating St. Johns College, Jaffna by an innings and 85 runs at Reid Avenue.
The traditional encounter between the two institutions was brought to life once again after around 30 years due to the civil war and the tradition lives on. Before the halt, the teams used to travel by train from Colombo to Jaffna and vice versa and it was a fun filled entertaining trip/ match for the boys.
Last year Royal College won by innings and they managed to do so thanks to a good team effort. After winning the toss and electing to face leather first Royal College posted a total of 236/6 before declaring with Hasitha Samarasinghe scoring a good 70 runs and being partnered by Geeeshath Panditharatne who scored 62. J. Krishanthujan ended the pick of the bowlers snatching 2 wickets for just 17 runs

In reply St. Johns College Jaffna were limited to a mere 69 runs thanks to a superb left arm leg spin spell by Lasith Ambuldeniya who picked up 6 for 19 runs. Being asked to follow on, the boys from Jaffna managed to score just 15 runs more than their first innings score ending all out for 84 runs, this time the bulk of the damage being caused by Chamika Karunaratne who captured 5 wickets for 23 runs which also included a hat-trick.
