Royal College will be desperate to finish 2024 with some Silverware as they take on the Thomians at the Complex on the 14th of September 2024 for the Micheal Guneratne Trophy.
Played for the 60th time, the Micheal Guneratne Trophy currently sits pretty in the cabinet at the Complex.
S. Thomas’ have not won the trophy since 2016, last doing so at the Royal Complex: 21 – 15.
The Royalists have dominated this fixture, winning it on 40 occasions in reply to the Thominas 20 wins with 6 games ending with nothing to separate the two sides.
Royal College
Following their loss of the Bradby Shield, Royal College will be eager to get back to winning ways as they take on the Thomians’ at home.
Royal will undoubtedly come up all guns blazing to take on arch rivals Thora in what provides them an opportunity to end the 2024 season with a win and silverware.
Skipper Thiven Perera and center partner Nabil Yahiya will be eager to put an end to a torrid season with some silverware.
Ayyash Shiyam, Thineth Gamage and their mamoth locking combination will be raring to go and get a piece of the visiting Thomian forwards.
S. Thomas’ College
Having narrowly lost out to Isipathana last weekend, the visiting Thomians will no doubt know that this is their final opportunity to end the 2024 season with a trophy.
A season above par for the lads from Mount Lavinia came to an climatic end in terms of a League of Knockout title as they fell short against Isipathana not once but twice.
Skipper Yehan Bulathsinhalage will want to end his College Rugby career with a win and what a way it will be to do it against arch rivals Royal.
Seneshka Liyanagunawardena, Akeeth Cooray and Mayanka Dias will another bunch of Thomians from their potent backline to have an eye on!
Final Say
S. Thomas’ will need to stop the Royal forwards barging their way forward and if they manage to do so, the hosts seem to lack creativity in their backline to break through good defensive outfits.
Prediction: S. Thomas’ to win by 6-points or more….
