The much awaited – ‘A’ Division Inter – School Rugby Tournament will kick off on the 3rd week of March (18th-24th) as we anticipate the excitement brought in with an addition of two more teams in this stellar league.
There were many speculations, and controversies before the start of the School season, but with all the dust settled it is time to once again to immerse ourselves in the thrills and spills of schools rugby.
According to the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association(SLSRFA) it was brought to light that there will be many changes made to the structure from this year. It is understood that there will be 12 teams featuring in the league tournament who will engage in a round robin group stage which will span five weeks where the top four in both Group A and B will later play a second round to decide the winners of the cup.
With more teams vying for the title, it will only make the race even more interesting. There will be some big fixtures in the first week in itself, where Royal will take on Isipathana in their first league game, which will also be played for the Maj. Milroy Fernando Trophy.
Apart from this big game, there will also be quite a few interesting battles, where last years unbeaten league champions will take on Division II champions S. Thomas’ and Wesley taking on the unpredictable St. Joseph’s who is currently been coached by this year’s Dialog Rugby League winning coach Leonard de Zilwa.
All in all this year’s seasons will definitely bring more excitement into the sport, and ThePapare.com hopes that all matches will be played to the best spirit of the game.
