Royal round off their season with an impressive win over Science

Royal signed off their season with a commanding victory against Science College at Mount Lavinia. Royal collected their points through four goals and two tries and the home side collected their points through one goal, one try and a penalty.

Royal started off the game in cracking fashion from the kick off and scored through hooker Supun Warnakulasuriya. Nimshan could not add the extras. (Royal 05, Science 00)

A couple of minutes later, the Royal pack dominated proceedings and finishing touches to a good move was made by their skipper Nimshan Jayawardena. Nimshan added the extras.(Royal 12, Science 00)

The home side replied immediately where they attacked from their own half and scored brilliantly through Prasad Silva. Conversion was not successful (Royal 12, Science 05) minutes later Science increased their score through a penalty from Ruwin Peiris( Royal 12, Science 08) The match looked well poised now and it was set up for a close game. But Royal found their feet and scored through Akash Iddawela just before the referee blew for half time. Nimshan missed the conversion. Royal took a nine point lead into the second half.

In second half Royal started positively and scored from their main weapon “the rolling maul” through Supun Warnakulasuriya and extras were added by Nimshan. (Royal 24, Science 08) Science College replied with a cracking try using their speedy runners when Prassad Silva who spotted a gap in the Royal’s defense crossed over for a try. (Royal 24, Science 15)

The match was an exciting one but Royal took control of the game and scored a sublime try through their skipper Nimshan Jayawardena. Nimshan added the extras. (Royal 31, Science 15)

Although royal were down to 14 men as their second row Umesh Madushan was sin binned, they took control of the game as their power forwards were ruthless with the rolling maul.Royal powered themselves ahead in the game and put adding the icing on the cake as Supun Warnakulasuriya scored his third and the sixth try for Royal to round off a superb display of forward play. Nimshan added the extras. With that victory Royal ended the season currently in fourth place in the cup league.
