Royal extended their unbeaten run as they cruised to a straight forward 49-07 win over Kingswood College at the Royal College Sport Complex.
Royal began the game aggressively and were able to score in the 5th minute through their reliable flanker Shawket Lahir. The Royalists after having won a 5 meter line out, managed to drive the Kingswood defense enabling Lahir to wriggle through the marauding defenders to score. Ovin Askey failed to add the extra points as the scores read 5-0. Askey who missed the conversion was able to make amends in the 10th minute as he slotted through a straight forward penalty to extend the home team’s lead to 8-0.
Royal continued to dominate their opponents and were able to add more points to their total in the 20th minute through their try machine Supun Warnakulasuriya. True to style, the play began through a 5m line out through which Royal setup their devastating rolling maul enabling the forwards to barge over the line to take the score on to 13-0. Once again, the conversion was missed.
The Kingswood defense continued to stumble in the face of the intelligent ploys employed by the Royal front line enabling the home team to add two more tries to their tally before half time. The first of the two tries was scored by Umesh Madushan who was able to collect the ball on the back of a 5m scrum enabling him to score under the post. Askey’s successful conversion took the score to 20-0 in favour of the home team. In what was a carbon copy of Warnakulasuriya’s first try, Royal secured yet another 5m line out which was followed by a rolling maul enabling the forward to score his second try of the match, the conversion which followed was successful.

The Royals started from where they left off in the first half as try-machine Supun Warnakulasuriya completed a well-deserved hat-trick to add to his growing tally of tries for the season enabling the home side to extend their lead to 32-0.
The Royal line made their first contribution to the score through what was undoubtedly the try of the game. In a sweeping move, the Royalists worked the ball from the left corner of the ground to the right where the winger Sabith Feroze received a wonderful pass from the captain Bhanuka Gamage. Feroze was able to free his legs and had wonderful sense to cut back on the inside and offload the ball to Gamage who completed the move which also was Royal’s 5th in the game. Askey failed to add the extra points as the score stood at 37-0.
After having allowed the line to have their moment of brilliance, the forwards got back into action as the home team were awarded a 5m scrum. In what was a predictable, but unstoppable move the scrum forced their way over the try line enabling Warnakulasuriya to score his fourth try of the game as the score moved on to 42-0. Ashok Wijeyakumar took over the kicking duties, but failed to execute a successful conversion.
Royal College looked to be in a strong position to record their second consecutive win without dropping a single point but had their plans were dashed when Srinath Wimalaweera sliced through the Royal defence to score under the posts. The extras for Kingswood were added by skipper Reza Rafaideen.
The home team managed to finish the game off on a high as Umesh Madushan on the back of a 5m scrum forced his way over the line to score the final try of the game. Ayendra Subasinghe who came on as a substitute added the extra points as the final score line read 49-07 in favor of Royal.
