Royal hold Wesley to close draw

Royal College took on Wesley College today in an inter school cricket match which took place at Reid Avenue. 

 

Royal College who elected to bat first scored 221 runs for five wickets in 56 overs in their first innings. Isuru Gunathilake  and Hashen Ramanayake notched up half centuries of 74 and 58 runs respectively while Hashen Ramanayake scored an unbeaten 47 runs. 

Sachin Jayawardane of Wesly College chipped in with 2 wickets in favor of their school in 67 runs.

Wesly College in their 1st innings could only score a total of 149 runs in 48.3 overs for the loss of all the players. Lasith Embuldeniya of Wesley College scored only 28 runs while Poorna Aluthge and Hashen Ramanayake chipped in with 3 and 2 wickets a piece. 

In the second innings Royal managed a mere 112 for a loss of 7 wickets in 27.5 where their batsmen failed miserably with just Isuru Gunathilake (25) and Heshan Kumarasiri (25) was the only noteworthy performance.  Sachin Jayawardane and M. Wickramasinghe were chief wreckers with 3 and 2 wickets respectively. 

Though Royal set a victory target of 185, Wesley could only reach a score of 127 for a loss of 8 wickets in 46 overs at close ending the match in a no-decision.

Ashail Kariyawasam notched up well made half century while J. Canderamanpulle remained not out on 24.
