The first inter-school chess championship of the year 2015 concluded last week with Royal College beating Anula Vidyalaya fair and square at Anula Vidyalaya in Nugegoda.
The event was organized for the second time by Anula Vidyalaya who have made a huge improvement in the last few years in inter school chess tournaments. This was held under two age categorizes and it was the lads from the Reid Avenue who dominated the proceeding from the beginning.
With fairly tougher opponents in the form Ananda College, Nalanda College and DS Senanayake College opting not to take part in the tournament Royal had literally nothing to do. They won both under-15 and under-20 age categorizes with Candidate Master Dinul Doluweera, S Ellawala, S.Gamage securing board prizes for the champions.
For Anula though as it has been on many occasion it was Women’s International Master Nelunika Methmali who salvage some pride clinching a board prize.
