Royal College and Ladies’ College Excel at the South West Monsoon Regatta

After ten very close and exciting finals the results of the South West Monsoon Regatta are as follows.

In the men’s junior category, the Vanlangenberg Trophy was won by Lasan Karunaratne and Naveen Ambewella from Ananda College. An excellent performance by Heshan Hettigoda, of Royal College won him the Gordon Armstrong Trophy for men’s junior sculls. Harshitha Silva and Ashain Perera of Asian International School clinched the Stubb’s Quaich Trophy for men’s pairs in the junior and senior categories. Royal College dominated the intermediate category with Bilal Hassan winning the Wardrop Trophy and the ‘Royal Colombo Yacht Club’ (RCYC) Trophy for men’s pairs being won by Sajid Ajmal and Amrith Dernando. After a re-row, the men’s junior double scull was awarded to Ishira Rambukwella and Upek Kuruppu of Royal College. Shehan Muthugala, Sajeev De Silva, Sanjiva Jayasuriya, Mushahid Munshif and Pasan Ranaweera from the Colombo Rowing Club took home the Centenary Oar Trophy. 

Ladies’ College emerged victorious in the women’s category with Nihara Warawita and Shannon Perera winning the women’s junior double scull event and Nihara Warawita and Nicola Ranasinha won the Secretaries Bowl for women’s junior pairs.
