Royal College and Isipathana College in a tame draw

179

Royal College and Isipathana College figured in a tame draw in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at the BRC ground in Havelock Park today.

The final outcome of this encounter of course was very clear on the opening day itself when both teams figured in a meaningless run crawl where the batsmen maintained a pathetic scoring rate of under three runs per over.

However Royal College had the satisfaction of overtaking their opponents total as they went on to build up a good first innings lead of 84 runs mainly due to two superb half centuries from Hashen Ramanayake and Randev Pathirana.

The bowling honours for Isipathana College were shared by Avinda de Soysa (5 for 60) and Chameera Dissanayake (4 for 87) who put up a decent performance to restrict the batsmen to a great extent.

Isipathana College in their second innings collapsed to 177 for 6 wickets and would have been in real trouble if not for a fighting unbeaten half century from middle order batsman Pramod Maduwantha.

Isipathana: 145 (Torrey Thabrew 23, Diluka Shehan 50, Pramod Maduwantha 30, Lasith Embuldeniya 3/32, Malith Kariyawasam 4/10,Devind Pathmanathan 2/40) and 177-6 (Diluka Shehan 22, Pramod Maduwantha 75 n.o, Avinda de Soysa 36, Devind Pathmanathan 2/50)

Royal: 229 (Geesath Panditharatne 28, Hashen Ramanayake 59, Randev Pathirana 58, Anupa Tillekeratne 39, Avinda de Soysa 5/60, Chameera Dissanayake 4/87)
