Sri Lankan seam-bowling all-rounder Isuru Udana will make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut next year after he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore during the IPL Auction held today (19th December) in Kolkata.
Udana will become only the second Sri Lankan cricketer to play in the IPL 2020 along with legendary Lasith Malinga, who was retained by Mumbai Indians, ahead of the auctions.

14 Sri Lankans were shortlisted to go under the hammer but only wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera and Udana got the opportunity to be auctioned for the eight franchises. Perera went unsold after been called-upon several times.
Isuru Udana, who had set his base price to INR 50 Lakhs (Sri Lankan Rupees 127.5 Lakhs), was sold for the same price in the last successful bid during the entire auction. He went unsold twice earlier after none of the teams showed interest.

Udana has been a regular player in several franchise T20 leagues around the world. More recently, he was instrumental for Paarl Rocks, who clinched the title in in the Mzansi Super League in South Africa.
In the most crucial buys of the evening, Australian fast-bowler Pat Cummins became the most expensive overseas signing in IPL history with Kolkata Knight Riders picking up the top-ranked Test bowler for a whopping INR 15.50 crore at the auction. Fellow Australian, Glenn Maxwell was signed by Kings XI Punjab for INR 10.75 crore.
