Royal College and S. Thomas’ College managed to gain first innings points in their U 19 tournament fixtures against Mahanama College and Mahinda College, Galle respectively.
Played at Kadirana Grounds Negombo, Mahanama College won the toss and decided to bat against the Royalists. After being 98/2 at a fairly comfortable position, quick wickets stalled the overdrive as they were bowled out for 135. Ganith Sandeepa took 5 for 24 and Lasith Embuldeniya took 3 for 47 while Thanula Sandesh scored a half ton. Royal’s reply of 227 was chiefly influenced by Helitha Vithanage’s unbeaten 45.
Mahanama College resumed with their second innings but rain stopped play leaving them 13/1 at close.
At Mount Lavinia, the Thomians clinched first innings points against Mahinda College, Galle. Winning the toss, Thomian skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka welcomed the visitors to bat. The home team dominated from ball one, as they dismantled the visitors for 87. Shenal De Silva grabbed 5 for 11. But the Mahindians came back, leaving the Thomians struggling at 98/5 but Sachitha Jayathilaka scored a vital 88 while Dilendra Gunathilaka braced in with an unbeaten 66, taking them to 231/7.
When bad light stopped play on the following day, Mahinda College remained at 85/3 in their second innings.
