St. Peter’s lost four wickets for 34 runs but recovered well to reach 89 for four at stumps on day one in response to Royal’s first innings total of 229 for seven declared in their U-19 inter-school cricket match which began at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Anupama Tilekeratne and Chamika Karunaratne took two wickets each to put the visitors under tremendous pressure going into the final day’s play tomorrow.
Earlier batting first Royal declared at 229 for seven with Randiv Pathirana hitting an imposing 91 with 13 boundaries and two sixes. He also engaged in a vital 92 runs for the 6th wicket with Thiran Dhanapala (31). Geeshantha Panditharatne also made 46 runs. Sahan Nanayakkara was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 53 runs while Naveen Dharshana took two for 40 before Royal declared after facing 73.4 overs. St. Peter’s in reply were in deep trouble but an unbeaten 32 from Janith Liyanage helped them reached 89 at stumps.
