Pathum and Chamika heroics reprieve Ireland ‘A’ victory
Sri Lanka has been hit by a string of injuries mid tour and the latest victim was the tearaway quick Lahiru Kumara, who has been sidelined for six weeks due to a hamstring injury. He will miss the remaining Test against Australia and might miss the upcoming games in South Africa tour.
Dushmantha Chameera too suffered an injury to his left ankle during day two of first test and will miss the game in Canberra.
Karunaratne, who bowls right arm fast medium, is the only replacement picked by the National selectors, with the 2nd Test set to commence later this week.
Vishwa Fernando recalled to Sri Lanka Test squad
The former Royalist, who captained the Sri Lanka Under 19 team in 2014, has played 29 First Class matches, with 59 wickets to his name. Karunaratne has been knocking on the national team’s door of late, with an impressive showing with the ball in the Asia Emerging Series and a match saving century versus Ireland wolves last week.
Karunaratne is the younger brother of two badminton national champions, Niluka and Dinuka.
Earlier on on the tour, Sri Lanka lost the services of veteran fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep as well, as the pacie pulled up with a hamstring injury during the practice game prior to the 1st Test and had to return home.
Both Kumara and Chameera will also return to the island for rehabilitation, with Sri Lanka hoping they will be ready to go as soon as possible, with the World Cup just a few months ago.
The 2nd Test is set to commence on the 1st of February.
