The May edition of the Pin Fernando Grand Prix, sponsored by UTE Engineering got underway at the Ridgeways in mixed weather, sporadic rain and low sunshine.
But nothing could stop George Patrick Sisira Kumara shooting 4 under par and taking the lead after Round 1, from Chalitha Pushpika in 2nd place on 2 under par. N. Amarapadma, Sachin De Silva and Vinod Weerasinghe were in joint 3rd place returning 1 under par 70.
Uchitha Ranasinghe secured 6th place on even par, whilst April PFGP winner B A Sanjeewa, M.U. Chanaka Perera (placed 2nd in the PFGP Rankings 2018) and R. Sureshan shared joint 7th place. With the rains coming and going, the leader board fluctuations are expected, notwithstanding top golf and good scores anticipated over the next 3 rounds.
A total of 33 players Teed-Off, with representation from the Navy and some promising juniors, among whom Vinod Weerasinghe was in joint 3rd place.
