The Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Athletic Championship, sponsored by Sri Lanka’s cherished chocolate brand, Ritzbury, and organized in collaboration with the Sri Lanka School Athletic Association (SLSAA), is set to captivate sports enthusiasts once again. With a history steeped in sporting excellence, this championship continues to provide a platform for aspiring athletes to showcase their skills.
The partnership between Ritzbury and the Sri Lanka School Athletic Association (SLSAA) was announced at a press conference held on June 20th, 2023, at the Taj Samudra in Colombo.
Embarking on an exhilarating journey, the championship commences with the vibrant Ritzbury Relay Carnival 2023. From June 24th to 26th, the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo will transform into a hub of youthful energy as over 4000 children from 200 schools showcase their speed, agility, and teamwork in thrilling relay races.
The 51st Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Athletic Junior Championship will feature age groups ranging from Under 12 to Under 15. Simultaneously, the 91st Senior Championship will feature categories for male and female athletes in the Under 16, 18, and 20 age groups. These championships offer a competitive stage for young athletes to push their boundaries and strive for greatness.
The championship’s excitement continues with the John Tarbat Junior Athletics Stage 1, which will unfold across various locations in Sri Lanka. From the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy (July 7th & 8th) to the Beliaththa D.A Rajapaksa Stadium (July 18th & 19th), Jaffna Municipal Grounds (August 10th & 11th), and Bandaragama Public Ground (August 19th to 21st), talented athletes from 600 schools will participate in this event. A staggering number of over 20,000 students are expected to partake in these athletic showcases, making it a true celebration of Sri Lanka’s sporting diversity.
Meanwhile, the John Tarbat Senior Championship is scheduled to take place from September 12th to 16th, showcasing the talents of experienced athletes. Additionally, the John Tarbat Junior Championship will be held from November 3rd to 5th, providing younger athletes with a platform to shine.
