Revan Kelly is playing in his fourth and final First-XI cricket season for St. Joseph’s. But the prominent batsman has played only one of their annual school big match, Battle of the Saints. He missed two Big Matches, one due to an injury and the other due to an illness. He is eager to play the upcoming Battle of the Saints and wants to win it for the Joes.

The left-hander said so when he met ‘The Island’ after reaching one-thousand runs milestone for the season on day one of their match against St. Anthony’s, Katugastota at Darley Road, Colombo on Thursday.

“I had the ambition of completing one thousand runs,’ said the former Sri Lanka Under-19 player who had the previous best aggregate (over 800 runs) in the 2015-16 season.

“My immediate aim is to do well in the Big Match and to win it,” said Kelly who also had the privilege of being involved in the Josephians’ highest partnership in the history for any wicket, this season.

Kelly put on a mammoth 314 runs partnership with fellow left-hander Nipun Sumanasinghe in their match against Wesley.

His highest knock of the season, 182 runs, also came in that match.

Kelly had accumulated 980 runs before yesterday’s match and passed the 1,000 runs milestone when he scored 29 in the first innings. He has maintained an average of 43.87 runs and has three centuries, and four half-centuries against his name.

He reached the milestone in his 14th match.
