Here’s a brief look into a few matches which concluded today in the Singer U19 Div I cricket tournament.
Maliyadewa College vs St. Servatius College
Maliyadewa College secured first innings points against St. Servatius College in a group D match at Kurunegala. Maliyadewa College posted 254 after they were put to bat first. Supun Sumanarathne top scored with 49 and there were a few good cameos by the other batsmen. Sashika Dulshan bagged 6 for 73 with the ball for St. Servatius.
In reply, Servatius were in contention of overcoming the first innings total which was posted by Maliyadewa. Muditha Hashan’s unbeaten 80was proved not enough as Servatius were bowled out for 208 runs in 61.4 overs. Damitha Silva and Sajeewan Priyadharshana bagged 3 wickets each. Maliyadewa came on to bat in the second innings but they could only bat for one over as the heavens opened up and stopped play.

Nalanda College vs Richmond College
Richmond College secured first innings points in a nail biter against Nalanda College at Nalanda Grounds. The visitors put Nalanda to bat first but they were bundled out for just 190 runs. Kasun Sandaruwan top scored with 45 runs while Ravishka Wijesiri and Thaveesha Abhishek took two wickets each. In return, Richmond struggled to get going but a fighting 50 run knock by Ravishka Wijesiri got them past the first innings total which was posted by Nalanda College. Richmond was bowled out for 191 in 61.2 overs.
Nalanda College came to bat for their second innings and they couldn’t better their first innings total. Thanks to Suhanga Wijewardana knock of 82, they managed to post 187 runs all out in 51.5 overs. Ravishka Wijesiri once again was amongst the wickets with 4 for 46. With a target of 187 to get in the last hour, Richmond was 94 for 4 in 14.5 overs at stumps.

Moratu Vidyalya vs Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda
Dharmashoka registered a convincing innings and 10 run victory against Moratu Vidyalaya. Moratu Vidyalaya was cleaned up for just 123 runs in the first innings Kavindu Nadeeshan ended with top figures of 3 for 14. In reply, Dharmashoka posted a mammoth 353 all out in 88 overs. Ravindu Rashantha top scored with 147 runs. Ravindu stood out from the rest with his big innings when no other batsman could reach the 50 run mark.
Moratu Vidyalaya had to bat the remaining overs but they failed as they were bowled out for just 220 in 66.2 overs. Madushka Fernando top scored with 76 but his efforts were all in vain. Ushan Imantha and Nimesh Mendis bagged three wickets each.

St Sylvester’s College vs Dharmaraja College
Traditional encounter between these two sides ended with St Sylvester’s registering a first innings victory against Dharmaraja College Kandy. Sylvester’s posted 281 for 9 in 76.3 overs before they declared. Avindu Herath top scored with 81 while Manuja Perera scored a valuable 72. Rukmal Dissanayke took 4 for 75 with the ball for the Rajans.
The Rajans looked in control when Dulaj Bandara and Sachinth Senanayake were at the crease but after their departure, it led to the downfall of Dharmaraja. Dulaj top scored with 67 and Sachinth scored 64. Rajans were bundled out for 241 in 77.1 overs which gave Sylvester’s the first innings victory. At stumps on day 2, Sylvester’s were 39 for 2.

Trinity College VS St Mary’s College, Kegalle
Shanmuganathan Shanogeeth’s second consecutive century guided Trinity to a thrilling 8 wicket victory against St Mary’s. Shanogeeth scored an Unbeaten 151 which guided Trinitians to 308 in just 64.1 overs. St Mary’s in reply were cleaned up for just 90 runs. Vimukthi Nethumal took 4 for 16 while Hasitha Boyagoda bagged 3 for 12.
St Mary’s were asked to follow on and they managed to put up a better batting performance in the second innings Gajitha Kotuwagoda top scored with 98 which almost saved the match for them. But unfortunately they were bowled out minutes away from stumps for 270 which gave Trinity a target of 53 in 7 overs. Skipper Shanogeeth scored an unbeaten 36 with 5 sixes to seal the victory by 8 wickets for the lions.

S. Thomas College vs St. Aloysius College
Pavith Rathnayke’s six wicket haul helped the Thomians secure first innings points against St Aloysius College at Mt Lavinia. After being bowled out for just 162 runs, S Thomas’ bowling attack rattled the Aloysiuns for just 124 runs. Pavith ended up with top figures of 6 for 17.
The Thomians came on to bat for their second innings and they were in a similar situation which they were in the first innings. They managed to recover later on and they declared their innings at 180 for 7 in 51.3 overs. Hareen Weerasinghe bagged four wickets for Aloysius in the second innings to go with the five wicket haul in the first innings. At stumps, St Aloysius College were 15 for 1 in 5 overs.
