Rejected bowler leaves country

The most successful fast bowler on slow Sri Lankan wickets Saliya Saman has left the country a day after learning that he was not selected to form a 34-member pool of Probables for a Sri Lanka A team tour of the West Indies.

A club official at Badureliya Cricket Club, where Saman took the highest of 37 wickets by a fast bowler this season, confirmed the paceman had sought greener pastures overseas.

Saman’s case was highlighted by Ceylon Today last Friday and the selectors subsequently included him along with six other players.

But it was too late as he had already quit in dejection.

The 27-year old strapping paceman who hails from Balapitiya in the south took a hat-trick this season as he cleaned up eight batsmen from the elite SSC team in one inning.
