After the fiasco ensued due to the horrendous decision at the CR&FC v Navy SC where referee Rankothge awarded a unlawful try to Navy SC, ThePapare.com learns that an inquiry is still to be conducted, and that the SLRFU are still awaiting a formal report from the Citing Officer.
Inquiry Yet To Take Place – (CR v Navy)
Speaking to a top official at the SLRFU Mr. Rohan Gunarathne explained to ThePapare.com earlier that the result of the game could not be overturned regardless of the outcome of the inquiry as it is against IRB rules. After many attempts ThePapare obtained a statement from the Head of the Referees Society Orville Fernando who explained that referee Rankothge is suspended until further notice. Orville agreed that it was a huge mistake on the referees part in the match and the referees society have always been responsible in meting out with appropriate punishments for under performance. He also explained that further action would be taken after a decision is made by the inquiry panel.
Hambanthota Sharks v Havies match to be ‘re-rescheduled’
Speaking to ThePapare.com Rohan elaborated that the game could be rescheduled to the 22nd of January 2014, provided that the Royal College Sports Complex was be available.
The match which is a re-match due to lights failing at Havelock park in the first week of the Dialog Rugby league, was supposed to have taken place on the 28th of December 2013 where it is learned that the Hambanthota Sharks team failed to turn up for the game. According to the IRB laws it is stated that a team is usually suspended for no show.
Foreign Referees Could Be Brought Soon
After the many blunders by the local referees in the Dialog Rugby League, according to Mr. Rohan Gunarathne, the SLRFU hope to bring in foreign referees to officiate a few games in the first round as well. This could well enhance the competitiveness of matches with three extremely important games to come.
