The Ambalangoda Urban Council Ground, which was redeveloped by Sri Lanka Cricket, was handed over to the cricketing community during the past weekend.
Under the redevelopment program, Sri Lanka Cricket laid the turf covering the entire ground, established 3 Center Turf Wickets and one Matting Wicket, built 05 Side Turf Practice Wickets, along with a movable net, and also constructed 02 Sight Screens.
Apart from it, SLC also handed over Ground Maintenance Equipment, such as Drum Rollers, Pitch Cutters, Outfield Grass Cutters, and Tractors.
The redeveloped ground was handed over to the Urban Council with the participation of Honorable Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Minister of Plantation, Mr. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, Vice President (International) of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne, Vice President (Domestic) of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Aruna Pradeep, Chairman of the Ambalangoda Urban Council, Mr. Kamal Dharmasiri, Head of National Development Center of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Lalith Halambage, and Mr. Jayantha Jayaweera, respectively, President and the Secretary of the Galle District Cricket Association.
Former Sri Lanka Cricketer Mr. Ajith De Silva and Sri Lanka Star Mr. Upul Tharanga were also present during the occasion.
Following the opening of the redeveloped ground, which was done under the Cricket Gamata program of the SLC, a match was played between the Singha Sports Club and Rio Sports Club, which are both affiliated clubs of the SLC.
In the meantime, Indoor nets of the Singha Sports Club of Ambalangoda, which was established by Sri Lanka Cricket during the year 2004 was renovated.
The refurbished net was opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports Honorable Namal Rajapaksa during the weekend, whilst Mr. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket also was present during the occasion.
