There are just three places up for grabs for the Quarter Final births in the Premier League Division I Championship with Groups B, C and D each with one.

Group A

Old Bens comfortably defeated last year’s FA Cup pre quarter finalists New Star 3-0 but their two losses against table-leaders Red Star and Cooray SC could only guarantee them of a third place finish in the group. Dominant free scoring Red Star already qualified for the quarter-finals with a game in hand and Cooray SC will fill the second and final spot from this group.

In a bottom of the table clash Maligawatte Youth prevailed 3-2 in a thriller against Colpetty United after leading 3-0 at half time. Mohomed Farhan opened the scoring in the 25th minute and Mohomed Azeem doubled the lead 8 minutes later; soon after Mohomed Siyam made it 3-0 stunning the hosts.

It was a complete turnaround in the second half with Colpetty United dominating and Mohomed Mushtaq scored in the 51st minute making it 3-1. It took some time for the second and it came in the 76th minute through S.M.Silva setting up a tense final fifteen minutes. However Maligawatte Youth defense held firm to deny the equalizer even with Farhan getting a red card deep into injury time.

Group B

FA Cup pre quarter finalists Eastern Youth secured their place in the quarter finals of the Division I championship after winning against Hy Line Sc and Red Sun SC on back to back days.

Eastern Youth defeated Hy Line 2-0 and Red Sun SC 3-0 to top the group. The second place is still up for grabs with Golden Star SC, Comrades SC, Red Sun and Renown SC(Hatton) all in contention with a game in hand and Renown with two matches left.

Group C

Moragasmulla SC defeated Super Beach SC 1-0 to top the group undefeated. Keteriyans just managed to hold on to the second spot pipping SLTB by one point. However Highlanders SC have a outside chance to steal that second place from Keteriyans if they win their final two matches.

Group D

Serendib SC secured their place in the final eight with 13 points from the six matches with a three way battle for the second place between Thihariya Youth, Old Mazenodians and Jupiters SC. Having already played their six matches after drawing 2-2 against Kandy York, Thihariya’s fate is not in their hands. A win for Old Mazenodians in their final match would book a place in the quarter finals and Jupiters also have a slight chance after defeating Jet Liners SC 2-1, if they can win their last match with a better goal difference and Old Mazenodians lose.
