Red Star made it three wins from three and Badovita put five past Maligawatte while Old Mazenodians scrapped through against Jupitere in week 3 of the Premier League Division I tournament.
Old Mazenodians SC recorded a historic win against Jupiters SC at Don Bosco Grounds, Negombo. Shanu Thisara scored the only goal of the match from a pass by Lasitha Tharanga in the 38th minute. Old Mazenodians defended very stoutly to deny the one time Premier League Champions.
Badovita United v Maligawatte Youth
Badovita United hosted Maligawatte Youth at Railway Grounds in Rathmalana and won with a 5-0 score line. African Kabir Lawal opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes but Maligawatte had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot but Mohomed Farhan skied it over. Seconds before halftime Badovita made it 2-0 when Kushan Maduranga scored.
After halftime Kushan scored his second in the 51st minute taking the game away from Maligawatte. Kabir also scored his second and his team’s fourth on the hour mark and Lazarus Dauda added the fifth to complete a thumping win.
SLTB v Highlanders
A lot of missed chances as SLTB and Highlanders shared points in Group C. SLTB dominated the first half creating chances but the finishing was not there.
Players played with energy as SLTB’s Dulaj went to the byline and cut back in for Chamara Jayaweera but his shot went off the crossbar. In the second half it was the visitors; Highlanders who played well backed up by good defense at the back. SLTB were forced to shoot from outside the box because of the good defense.
“Still 1 month after taking over the team. Finishing is very poor. Missed chances. Need to rectify that.” SLTB coach Lalith told ThePapare.com
“Fitness yes satisfied. Scoring was very bad.Second half we played well. Need to win the next three matches.” Highlanders coach Wanigasuriya added.
