Ratnam thrash Super Sun, Java Lane draw a thriller against Matara City

Ratnam decimated Super Sun SC in a six goal rout. Five Ratnam players were able to get on the scoresheet and they led 2-0 at halftime through goals from P.C. Nadeesh and C. Abeysekara.

 

In the 57th minute Tharaka Silva scored the third and 3 minutes later he added the fourth. In the 62nd minute M. Yogaraja scored with a powerful strike to the left corner and EB Channa scored the sixth in the 80th minute. The only goal for the Super Sun’s came from I.Tony deep into injury time.

Army Sports Club broke Don Bosco’s resistance to score two goals in the final ten minutes and win the match 2-0. Don Bosco playing at home produced an organized defensive approach to the free scoring Army SC and the tactic worked as they frustrated the Army attackers led by veteran Mohamed Issadeen. However with 9 minutes remaining in the game Army’s I.P. Kumara broke the deadlock heading home the ball from a free kick. Don Bosco having to change tactics and go for an equalizer led to them being vulnerable at the back and that let Mohamed Issadeen score the second five minutes from time.

Java Lane came from two goals down to draw 3 all in a thrilling encounter between Matara City Club at Kew Points Road. The match had everything a spectator would love to see, goals, feisty tackles and intense argy- bargy.  Mohamed Zarwan scored the opener in the 9th minute but C.Navinda equalized 7 minutes later. Just before the end of first half Matara City’s D.B. Weerappuli scored a brace putting the game firmly in their favour. In the second half Java Lane played a more aggressive game backed up by their hardcore home fans and they managed to get the second goal through skipper Nagoor Meena in the 78th minute. Things got ugly for Matara City as S. Indika was shown the yellow card within seconds and the team lost their composure letting the home team dictate terms. Mohamed Rizkhan scored the equalizer in the 89th minute.

Nandimithra left their comeback a little too late as Renown scraped through for a 2-1 win at Kew Points Road. After a goalless first- half, Renown upped the pace to produce quality football and scored through Fazul Rahuman on the hour mark. From the restart Mohammed Azmi added the second much to the shock of the Nandimithra players. Nandimithra regained composure and mounted a comeback but could only score their first in the 89th minute through C. Sampath.

P. Wickramasinghe’s goal deep into injury time gave New Youngs a deserved point against Solid SC. Solid SC’s impressive first round performances has become a rare sight in this second round of matches in the Dialog Champions League and it was evident as the New Youngs took the lead in the 14th minute from Asanka De Silva’s strike. Solid gained the lead in the second half through goals from Shola and Mohamed Najimudeen in the 54th and 59th minutes. Wickramasinghe scored the equalizer with the last kick of the match.

Patrick Wilson’s hat trick gave 10 man Up Country Lions a thrilling 3-2 win against Police SC. The travelling Lions took the lead in the 22nd minute as Wilson shrugged of the defender to place the ball on the bottom left corner and doubled the lead 8 minutes later. Police SC’s D.S. Pathirana cut the lead in half in the 36th minute. In the first half injury time Up Country Lion’s goalkeeper fouled Mohamed Rafeek inside the penalty box and was sent off. Rafeek buried the resulting penalty to end the first half 2 all. Wilson had his third in the 49th minute and the Lions defended their hearts out for the rest of the match.
