Former Peterite and powerlifter Ranuga Deshita Liyanage, currently in England, is set to participate in the British Powerlifting Championships in July.
An emerging powerlifter, Liyanage was a part of the national powerlifting squad since his time in school. Ranuga was also nominated to represent the country at the Asian Classic Championships in Hong Kong.
Unfortunately, the tournament was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The former Peterite will participate in the South East Classic British Powerlifting Championships in the 59KG junior category and will have his eyes fixed on the Sri Lankan national record.
The tournament will be held on the 17th of July 2021.
Ranuga is coached by his father, Desha Liyanage, a former national champion.
