Sri Lanka’s ace power lifter Ransilu Jayathilaka cleared an overall weight of 760 kg in the 120Kg event to become the first Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.
Kodikara Impresses at the World Powerlifting Championship
Jayathilake competed in the 120Kg at the IPF World Powerlifting Championship held in Orlando, Florida yesterday (18th November) and achieved an overall ranking of 13th in his event. Strongman Jayathilake established three new Sri Lanka records in the course of the competition having cleared 292.5Kg in the Squat, 310kg in the deadlift with an overall score of 760Kg. In his pet category – “the dead lift” Jayathilaka was ranked 09th and although he could not reach the pre-tournament target of getting into the top 6 dead lifters it was a vast improvement of his personal best for the Lankan.
Speaking to ThePapare.com from Orlando, Florida Jayathilake added “It was a great experience to represent our motherland at the World Powerlifting Championship, considered as one of the elite international events for any power lifter. I happy I could establish three new Sri Lankan records at the championship. I believe I have a good chance in getting qualified for the World Power lifting Games next year in Poland.”
Ransilu Jayathilake and Dhanushka Kodikara made history as the first Sri Lankan lifters to take part in the World Powerlifting Championship and were both ranked 13th in their respective events.
