The initial discussions regarding the matter are reportedly done and Herath is expected to take up the role during the Bangladesh Test tour. ThePapare learned that Herath will be granted a contract on a tour-by-tour basis.
It is also noteworthy that the two tours, the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka and England tour of Sri Lanka are yet to be confirmed.
The world’s most prolific left-arm bowler, Herath, completed his level 2 coaching course with the SLC in October 2018. “I have finished my Level II (coaching) qualification and am going to start Level III this year. My intention is to serve our younger generation, not to start an international coaching career,” Herath said in a live TV interview with a private tv channel this September.

Herath has showed a lot of interest in guiding the junior-level cricketers with his expertise and mentioned that he is looking forward to first working with junior cricketers before taking up any role as a coach with an international team.
In the recent past, Herath was involved as a consultant coach with the first-class team of Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club and also had a stint with Sampath Bank in the same capacity.
This will mark the entry of the champion spinner to the coaching arena with an international team and could prove to be an inspired appointment with a number of left-arm spinners coming through the ranks.
