Dharmashoka managed to win their interschool cricket fixture against Ananda College Colombo in Balapitiya a short while ago beating them by 8 wickets.
Shokian right arm off spinner Ramesh Mendis who captured a fine hattrick yesterday continued to pester the Ananda batsmen during the 2nd day capturing a further 6 wickets ending with a match bag of 12 wickets.
Ananda College who were struggling at 45/6 during the end of day one only managed to score 69 runs in their first innings in 36.5 over’s replying to the host’s 191 runs. Apart from Thamalka Athulathmudali (16) and Dasun Wijesinghe (15) who contributed yesterday Thushan Samarakoon managed to score 13 runs today for the visitors. The two spinners Ramesh Mendis and Yohan de Silva captured all 10 wickets with the former ending with figures of 6 for 24 while his teammate ended with 4/17.
The lads from Maradana were then asked to follow on and they managed to better their first innings score scoring 208 runs in 48.1 over’s. It was a positive start for the Anandians as their opening batsman Dasun Wijesinghe managed to score 55 runs to get them off to good start. Danuka Madushan then continued his opener’s effort by scoring a half century (55) while Samvu Ashan ended with 30 runs to his name.
Mendis torments Ananda
Ramesh Medis after having realized the faults of the Ananda batsmen continued his crafty offies capturing 6 wickets for 87 runs while Anura Halambage and Yohan de Silva ended with figures of 2/20 and 2/64 respectively.
The home team was set a target of 87 runs and they managed to clinch victory in 13 over’s with an unbeaten 30* by all rounder Yohan de Silva who finished with an impressive match performance capturing 6 wickets and scoring 53 runs. They had a healthy start with their right handed opener Anura Halambage scoring 34 runs and Yohan de Silva (30) and Isuru Chathuranga (13) continued their merry way to claim victory by 8 wickets. For the Anandians it was Samvu Ashan who captured both wickets for 52 runs.
Dharmashoka College right arm off spinner Ramesh Mendis was the reason behind victory for the home team capturing a match bag of 12 wickets for 111 taking his season wicket tally up to 47 wickets.
