Rain spoils the 2nd unofficial ODI

Monsoon Rains in Sri Lanka washed out the 2nd unofficial ODI between Sri Lanka ‘A’ vs West Indies ‘A’ played at Dambulla on Monday.

The match was delayed by 2 hours and then the officials reduced the game to 38 overs per side. West Indies ‘A’ skipper Carlos Braithwaite won the toss of coin and elected to bat first. The Lankan new-ball bowling pair of Nisala Tharaka and Farveez Maharoof struck early to restrict the visitors to 19 for 2. Jonthan Carter and Kraigg Braithwaite put on 68 runs for the 3rd wicket to lay a good foundation but a brilliant piece of fielding by Dimuth Karunaratne sent Carter back to the pavilion for 39. The Lankan bowlers continued to bowl in attacking areas and take wickets at regular intervals as Braithwaite lost partners.

The right-handed opener Kraigg Braithwaite was the 6th wicket to fall after he made a classic 63 runs in 87 balls with 4 boundaries. Young fast-bowlers, Dushmantha Chameera and Nisala Tharaka captured 5 wickets amongst them while seasoned campaigners, Jeewan Mendis and Farveez Maharoof scalped 2 wickets each. Captain Carlos Braithwaite hammered a quick-fire 18-ball 39 with 4 maximums which pushed the Windies score to 193 all out in 37 overs.

Chasing 194 runs to win, Sri Lanka ‘A’ was 8 for the loss of 1 wicket when heavy rains ended the game pre-maturely. Both teams will be playing their 3rd unofficial ODI on 5th November at SSC grounds but the prevailing weather conditions around the island will prompt the organizers to change the venue or the date it-self.
