55th battle of babes of the hill capital between the St.Sylvester’s College Kandy and Vidyartha College started bit delay due to the bad weather conditions predicted in Kandy.
Dushan Malalasena the captain of St, Sylvester’s college won the toss and elected to field .Vidyartha hoping for a big match victory with a great spirit started to bat where Muditha Alpitiya captain of Vidyartha opened his batting in style. He played a captains knock with a brilliant 71 for Vidyartha to take honors at the 1st session of the day.
The Sylvestrians fought back with their biggest weapon of left arm spinners Nimesh Mendis and Sumedha Dissanyaka, where Mendis broke the memento by taking the 1st wicket breaking the 81 run opening partnership which was great delight to the Vidyartha fans.
Giving hope to the St Sylvester’s fans was the 14 year old left arm spinner, A Tiron who captured two quick wickets to put Sylvesters in contention in the game. At the end of the day Vidyartha were 145/5 with Kasun Navarathne not out on 31.
