Rain abandons Premier Limited Overs cricket

The prevailing bad weather conditions in the island made sure all six matches on Tuesday get washed away in the SLC-AIA Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16.

Three matches – Bloomfield vs SL Army, NCC vs CCC, and Ragama vs SL Ports Authorty were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The other three matches which commenced late on Tuesday were affected by the heavy showers later in the evening.

SSC vs Chilaw Marians

SSC fast-bowlers excelled on seam-friendly conditions to bundle out Chilaw Marians for just 108 at SSC grounds.

Experienced fast-bowler, Dilhara Fernando, young hit-the-deck seamer Kasun Madusanka and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka shared 8 wickets while veteran left-hander Malinda Warnapura top-scored with 35 for the visitors. The hosts’ were 13 for 1 in their chase when rain intervened.

Chilaw Marians – 108 all out in 34.1 overs: Malinda Warnapura 35, Akshu Fernando 21*, Maduka Liyanapathiranage 22, Dasun Shanaka 2/21, Lakshan Jayasinghe 2/12, Kasun Madusanka 3/28, Dilhara Fernando 3/28.

SSC – 13/1 in 4 overs.

Colts vs Saracens

Only 40.3 overs were possible after the game commenced at 11.30am at Colts grounds.

The visitors, Saracens were 186 for 8 at the stoppage. Skipper Harsha Cooray was batting excellently on 64 not out in 84 balls while opener Sangeeth Cooray slammed a responsible half-century. Leg-spinner Sanka Ramesh captured 4 wickets for the hosts.

Badureliya vs Moors

Badureliya Sports Club were 155 for 4 in 35 overs at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona when rain brought a premature end to the game.

Senior player, Hasantha Fernando stroked an unbeaten 48-ball 53 with 4 fours and 2 sixes while opener Sameen Kandanarachchi made 36 off 51 balls. Off-spinner Sachithra Serasinghe picked up 3 scalps for Moors.
