Colts squandered their chance to earn date with SSC in Sunday’s Premier limited over finals when they conceded a 93-run win to Ragama in the second semi-finals worked off at SSC grounds. Colts were bowled out for a miserable 113 runs in 32.1 overs.
Colts probably felt the absence of their run-machine Kusal Janith Perera when they chased a gettable 206 in a good batting track.
Perera was the leading run scorer in the limited over season when he was called for national duty after regular wicket-keeper bat Kumar Sangakkara fractured a figure to play in the ODI leg in the Australian series.
Colts cut a sorry figure in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals even though number 3 bat, Shihal Kamileen was unbeaten with diligent 39 off 71 deliveries. Veteran Malinga Bandara claimed three lower order wickets for 13 runs as Ragama hit the final nail on Colts coffin to reach the limited over finals for the first time in the history
Ragama wasn’t as impressive as one would have expected, after they were put into bat as they managed 206 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 49 overs. Sameera de Zoysa played a good hand, hitting a 56 and also shared two useful partnerships with Milinda Siriwardene (43) and Shalitha Karunanayake (22).
