The group stage of the SLSCA Under 19 Division 1 Inter-Schools Two Day Tournament concluded, with 16 teams qualifying for the knock-out stage (8 teams each from Tier A & Tier B).

Trinity College, Kandy (X1), Wesley College, Colombo (X2), St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa (Y1), St. Joseph’s College, Colombo (Y2), Richmond College, Galle (Z1) and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala (Z2) who made a top-2 finish in the first round, directly qualified to the quarter-finals from Tier ‘A’ segment.

Royal College, Colombo (X3) and St. Benedict’s College, Colombo (Y3) who recorded the best 3rd-place finishes in the first round, also secured quarter-final berths in the Tier ‘A’ segment.

Meanwhile, the lowest-ranked six teams in the Tier ‘A’ segment will involve in several playoff games in order to determine the two teams relegated to the Division 1 Tier ‘B’ segment for next year.

Gurukula College, Kelaniya which placed at the bottom of the points table in Group X (6th place) will meet St. Anthony’s College, Kandy which placed at the 5th-place of the points table in Group Z in the first playoff game. The loser of this game will play against Nalanda College, the 6th-placed team in Group Z in the relegation match. The loser of this relegation game will be demoted to Division 1 Tier ‘B’ segment from next year.

De Mazenod College, Kandana the 5th placed team in Group X will meet St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, the 5th-placed team in Group Y in another playoff game. The loser of this game will play against St. Thomas College, Matara, the 6th-placed team in Group Y in the relegation match. The loser of this relegation game will be demoted to the Division 1 Tier ‘B’ segment from next year.

St. Aloysius’ College (X1), Galle, Mahinda College, Galle (X2), Maris Stella College, Negombo (Y1), Isipathana College, Colombo (Y2), St. Servatius’ College, Matara (Z1) and St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy (Z2) who made top-2 finish in the first round, directly qualified to the quarter-finals from Tier ‘B’ segment.

Thurstan College, Colombo (X3) and Ananda College, Colombo (Y3) who recorded the best 3rd-place finishes in the first round, also secured quarter-final berths in the Tier ‘B’ segment.

Similar to the Tier ‘A’ segment, the lowest-ranked six teams in the Tier ‘B’ segment will play several playoff games in order to determine the two teams relegated to Division 2 Tier ‘A’ segment for next year.

The loser of this game will play against Zahira College, the 6th-placed team in Group Y in the relegation match. The loser of this relegation game will be demoted to Division 2 Tier ‘A’ segment from next year.

Moratu Viyalaya, Moratuwa the 5th-placed team in Group X will meet St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, the 5th-placed team in Group Y in another playoff game. The loser of this game will

play against Dharmaraja College, Kandy, the 6th placed team in Group X in the relegation match. The loser of this relegation game will be demoted to Division 2 Tier ‘A’ segment from next year.
