Prosperous Capital & Omega Line won the Men’s and Women’s championships respectively in the ‘A’ Division Mercantile Volleyball Championship at the National Youth Services Council indoor stadium.
Women’s Category
Omega Line grabbed the championship of the women’s category as they defeated MAS Stretchline by 3-0 in the finals.
It was a cake walk for the team from Omega Line as they dominated the whole game from the very onset. They won the first set with much ease by 25-11 and they continued their good form in the 2nd and the 3rd sets by winning them by 25 and 17 respectively to clinch the title.

The heroics of Sanduni Kavindya and Piyumi Maheshika in the finals made Omega Line’s win much more effortless.
The Captain of the Omega Line team, Piyumi Maheshika expressing her ideas with ThePapare.com said;
“We are delighted. We worked very hard for this. And we would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Channa Jayasekara, Mrs. Pushpa Botheju and Mr. Dhammika for their contribution. We will come back again next year to win the championship again.”
Men’s category
Prosperous Capital concluded their first ever Volleyball competition on a high note as they defeated Brandix Lingerie by 3-0 to seize the championship of the men’s category.
The 1st set was much more competitive with both the teams scoring back to back points. But it was Prosperous Capital who came on top at the end to win the 1st set by 25-22. Mohomad Inshaf of Prosperous Capital dismantled the opposition in the 2nd set with his powerful dashes as they won it by 25-18.
They registered an easy win in the 3rd set by 25-15 clinching the championship in 3 straight sets.
Two veterans in the field, Morris Chaminda and Sameera Dissanayake were the two coaches behind Prosperous Capital’s success.
Mohamed Tharushan, the Captain of the Prosperous Capital team said, expressing his ideas with ThePapare.com after the game;
“This is our first competition and we won it. And also this was the first time we played in an indoor stadium. So we are very happy with the result.”
The finals of the Championship and the Super League divisions of the Mercantile Volleyball Championship 2017 will be held today (17) at the same venue.
