The men’s and women’s finals of the President’s Gold Cup Championship, Sri Lanka’s premier annual volleyball tournament powered by Dialog Axiata, will get underway on the 19th of November at the Davisamara School in Seeduwa.

Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity services provider Dialog Axiata PLC stepped in to sponsor the national tournament for the eleventh consecutive year, whilst the tournament has been part of the Sri Lankan national sporting calendar for the past two decades.

The preliminary rounds of the tournament hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation have been worked-off over the last few months, attracting teams from over 300 Grama Seva divisions including the North and East. The number of participating teams reached a high of 6700 in 2011 with the inclusion of all Gramasewa areas in Sri Lanka. The main purpose of the tournament is to elevate Sri Lanka’s national sport to reach the heights of sports like cricket, rugby and football.

This year’s Women’s final will be contested between Koswadiya Vijaya sports club and Radhawana Golden Birds, while Boralesgamuwa Balares will take on Debagama Rantharu in the men’s final. All four of these teams have a rich history in the tournament, having been part of the finals in previous editions of the event.

The winners, first and second runners up of Dialog President’s Gold Cup in both the men’s and women’s category will receive trophies and cash prizes, while special awards will be presented to the best players of the tournament.

His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena is set to grace the occasion as chief guest.
